Every care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the existing wetlands, the typical vegetation of carob, olives and almond trees, and several lakes, occupying 13 hectares, providing mirrors of water and strategic reservoirs for watering purposes. With 5/6 tees per hole, wide and undulating fairways, extensive water obstacles and well positioned bunkers; Victoria will reward heroic and ambitious shots. The one of the distinguishing characteristics of the course is that the 18 greens have totally different shapes and sizes, and for which local knowledge will be an advantage.
Another major attraction is formed by an exceptional driving range and by an enormous putting green area of around 2,500m2.
The Vilamoura Victoria golf course has host the European Tour Algarve Masters tournament for a number of years now.
Pro's Tips: Gentle opening, with a downhill drive from the elevated tee. There are bunkers at the point where the ball should land; play left of center for the best opportuninty of avoiding them. The 2nd is a short par 4 but think carefully about the approach shot in. The green is hugely elevated and anything but a confident approach may be penalised on a surface that slopes to the front. Apart from the fact that each hole offers five tee postitions the most noticable attribute of this course are the large greens. The Par 5's are very challenging, there is a difference of 119 metres for example between the championship tees and the the mens yellow boxes at the 5th. Water is a feature coming into play at the par 4 - 7th hole, a tricky dog leg left to an elevated green a good drive may carry it. 'The Victoria Corner' is the collective name for holes 11, 12 and 13 where water hazards demand accuracy. Then there is the 14th and effectively a double fairway where there is a choice of driving across the water or playing safe.
